Pregnant Woman Power – Nothing quite like it. Really.

There is nothing quite like seeing a content-happy-secure pregnant mama. It kinda makes us want to be pregnant again. So until then, we will just  need to stick out our belly and head to the beach J

Here are just a few behind the scenes + final results of a day in the sun with one hot mama (in Peek-a-boo’s retro one-piece nursing and maternity bathing suit) and a bunch of talented individuals.

Sneak Peek to one of our favorites: Striped nursing maxi dresses, great as summery nursing/maternity dresses for special occasions!

THE most dramatic changes in such a short period of time happens to a woman’s body during her pregnancy and post partum recovery – there is no other thing like it really, anywhere.

This sets new challenges to me as a designer for 2-in-1 pieces. We like to look at these phases as a whole: pregnancy AND nursing so our items will be 100% suitable and functional for the whole stretch!

I look at the changes that occur on a pregnant woman and her fashionable needs, I do not look at nine months, but the overall changes: Her body, the new role she undertakes and accordingly, new activities in which she participates. We wanted to give a practical solution from the early stages of pregnancy and deliver a comfortable and stylish line of clothes the fit her body as it changes.

how we designed our nursing maxi dresses

Thanks to our high quality materials and thanks to a hidden breastfeeding opening which provides quick and easy access with minimal exposure – our maternity nursing tops compliment the changes that occur after childbirth and accompanies her as she return her original measurements.

… and then there are her wants and needs (can’t ignore that!). That’s why we just had to have maternity maxi dresses (and we had to make them nursing maxi dresses as well!) I think that if a woman is used to wearing an everyday maxi dress – there is no need to give it up really. I think that nursing maxi dresses are one of the most comfortable solution (+ I feel they also flatter and do wonders – they in most cases they make you look taller!): not to mention there are some woman who suffer from hot flashes…

In the spotlight:

We have something for everybody type but really, we think our maternity maxi dresses are the most versatile (just put on a jacket for cool summer nights), dress them up or down and (most importantly) use them while pregnant and benefit from their nursing slit for discreet nursing.

Take a peek at our NEW striped nursing maxi dress. We know you will fall in love!

You can finally fit into “regular” clothes, so why invest in nursing tops? Here is why…

I gave birth three times… after each and every time, I clearly remember the day I stood in front of my open closet, smiling at my beloved well-missed old clothes. And then I had to get dressed… well that was a different story. My body was not exactly the body I used to have (even when I got back to the weight I used to be in.. something shifted…) and the thought of lifting up the “ordinary” shirt I wear in order to nurse my baby, exposing my tummy , was just something I was not ready for. Peek-a-boo offers a wide range of fashionable nursing tops; they were rated as the BEST nursing tops over and over again. And for a good reason: our tops are fashionable nursing tops as well as the most functional you will find out there.

Because our tops are maternity nursing tops I always suggest purchasing as early as possible. Our high quality, super soft, viscose-lycra, breathable fabrics are designed to “shrink” back to their original dimensions so there will be no reminder of the belly that once populated the top. If you buy these nursing and maternity tops early on you will get the most “mileage” on them!

There are tones of fashionable nursing tops out there – why not look and feel great? You can go about your life without anybody suspecting you are actually wearing a nursing top: a- it is a fashionable nursing top; b- our nursing slit is absolutely unseen (this is also the reason our tops work 100% as maternity tops and 100% as nursing tops for breastfeeding).

So until everything “shifts” back into place… Get a maternity nursing top. You will look good, feel good AND it’s functional!

Nursing Maxi Dress for Summer

We are very excited to welcome our summery styles (in store Now!) – so we wanted to feature our 2016 striped nursing maxi dress!

Why is a maxi dress a must have for any pregnant/nursing mama (Especially Peek-a-boo’s striped maternity maxi dress, may also be used as a nursing maxi dress of corse)? Here are a few reasons:

Reason #1: Stripes-stripes-stripes.

Not only stripes have been hot for a while now, we implemented it into our maternity maxi dress cut in the most flattering style that conceals everything you wish to hide at the moment. We even added a little rouching in the tummy area! We chose to bring this dress to you in stripes because it is very different than any other (Black) maternity maxi dresses out there.

… Just have fun with it!

Reason #2: Essentials are worth the investment – Our 2-in-1 maxi dress is a long term investment.

We are just entering the hottest season… If you are pregnant – this maternity maxi dress is a must. Being pregnant during summer means sweating (in all those places you didn’t know you are able to sweat in!!). If you are breastfeeding – there is nothing like the combination of heat and hormones – don’t you wish you had a light nursing maxi dress with a discreet nursing slit??

Because our items are 2-in-1 and can actually serve you from early pregnancy and all through the whole period you breastfeeding – it has a long (closet) shelf-life.

Don’t sweat over what to wear! Just throw on a dress and head out!

Reason #3: Flexibility-1 Maxi dress > 3 looks.

Wear it up wear it down; one maxi dress can serve you in different occasions: add flip flops, hat and a tote to the pool and you have a breezy maternity dress. Earrings, nice beaded heavy necklace and a pair of nice sandals for an easy access nursing maxi dress at a BBQ or add a clutch and heels for a date with your hubby.

The right dress is an absolute summer staple, effortless and always on-trend for the season.

How maternity-nursing tops can solve maternity fashion blunders

During pregnancy our body undergoes the biggest change in the shortest time.
Some women embrace change and enjoy every moment, others avoid looking in the mirror.
Whether you belong to the first group or the second; physical changes force us to deal with a new “fashion reality”
which causes us to open our closets, review our wardrobe and consider maternity and nursing wear.

I meet many women from the early stages of pregnancy to the postpartum and breastfeeding period.
What they all have in common is a handful of tips. Here are a few I have learned from my experience:

Mistake # 1: not changing into maternity clothes in late stages of the pregnancy.

Your shirt buttons are working overtime and the seams on the sides of your pants are starting to stretch? It’s time to give your old clothes a little rest.
Your open zipper and elastic bands are not invisible. This is the time to accept the changes and invest in some good, practical and cute maternity tops.
If you can find clothes that can also cater you in the transition period after giving birth- win-win!

When your belly grows, the rest of your body looks smaller proportionally, and your dream of killer-thin legs seems completely realistic now.
Trouble is- those legs come with a big belly now.

Remember that you have the best accessory in town – a nice round belly – emphasize it, don’t hide it!

Solution: There is a big selection of cute maternity tops out there.
Try to find one that celebrates your bump but also one that you feel comfortable in. Looking good = feeling good!

Mistake # 2: Purchasing maternity dresses or tops without thinking ahead.

It is difficult to predict exactly how your body will change during the course of your pregnancy.
This could result in spending extra cash on items you will only be able to wear for a few weeks.

Solution: At first, try to buy only a couple of items you really feel you can’t do without.
In today’s market there are gorgeous items made from high quality materials and are composed of enough Lycra which are great to “grow” with you.
Furthermore, if you really want to get the most of the clothes you purchase: buy maternity nursing tops that can serve you well after birth with a discreet breastfeeding opening.

Pamper yourself with these maternity tops. You can also choose from this selection of cute maternity dresses which are suitable as nursing dresses as well.

Mistake # 3: thinking that fitted clothes are unflattering

In the first trimester it is easy to wear your regular clothes. In the later stages of pregnancy it is best to avoid choosing the wrong kind of maternity clothes that may make you appear dowdy.

Solution: Avoid choosing loose maternity clothes and choose clothes that fit your tummy area nicely – front and back!
If you are worried that people will think you just gained some weight – stroke your stomach in the most maternal way you can, this usually does the job!

Items with side roaching are the best maternity tops and are great as cute nursing tops too –
they conceal the tummy area, front and back, and make sure there is enough room for your growing belly.

Mistake # 4: keep wearing the same bra.

You’re going to notice all kinds of changes that happen to your body once you see these two stripes on your pregnancy test.
Usually the first major change is your growing breasts.
Most women will go up at least one cup size during pregnancy and after birth.

Solution: In order to determine the appropriate size for you, you should buy maternity/nursing bras, at least one using a personal fitting and avoid the pressure of your regular bra on your body.

Maternity/Nursing bras are far more beautiful and would give you the support and comfort you need. Try these:

Nursing tops that can make you look (and feel) fabulous

There are a lot of DO‘s and DON’Ts during pregnancy (DON’T eat Sushi, DO Drink plenty of water, DON’T (avoid) drink alcohol, DO get plenty of rest, you know what I am talking about).

Well, then you give birth and FINALLY you are able to do (almost) everything again. BUT (and there is a big BUT) you are not completely set free, there is a little someone who every once in a while (2 hours at best) requests you strip down and feed him. Exposing your tummy or boobs is not exactly your favorite part of the routine.

Maternity nursing tops – how can they help?

–       Find a flattering breastfeeding top that has the easiest opening access – I find that the best nursing tops are the ones that open beneath the breast-line as most breastfeeding bras open from top to bottom and work best with this opening.

–       Winter or summer, I am always in favor of a good nursing tank top. It can be dressed up or dressed down, wear them in hot weather or layer in winter. Post-pregnancy, especially the first few weeks, are in the baby’s warm environment (not to mention the hormones, oh dear, the hormones… I am sweating just from thinking about it).

–       I always say that being pregnant / a breastfeeding mother is a temporary state (no matter how long you wish to nurse your baby). Buy clothes that can serve you well and be a good return of investment: maternity nursing tops can be worn all through pregnancy and while nursing (and until you get your body back!).

–       There are fashionable nursing tops out there that will make you look (and feel) fabulous! Start with one or two and see if this is something that simplifies your routine (EXACTLY what you need right now)..

No more DO’s and DON’Ts: right now, anything that makes you feel good is probably definitely a DO.. so head on and google best nursing tops / nursing tank tops or maternity nursing tops – there are plenty to choose from!

♥Happy shopping!♥

Hard to find cute nursing dresses? – Problem solved!

The Problem – Wearing Dresses while Nursing.

Ask any mother – finding cute maternity wear is hard as it is. Finding cute nursing clothes is an even bigger challenge.
Challenging of all:  finding a practical, black nursing dress!

You would never really give it a thought until you are actually faced with such a situation:
You are strolling around the mall, dressed nicely, with your baby whom suddenly decided to demand his third breakfast today.
Now you have two options: lift your dress and show the world your undies OR squeeze your boob out of the top of the dress.

Well, which one will it be?

Before you were a mother, you loved throwing on a dress and flip flops and head out.
Now that heading out with a baby has become cumbersome, wearing a dress while nursing is an unrealistic dream – until now!

The Solution – Nursing dresses by Peek-a-boo.

As the designer behind Peek-a-boo’s Nursing and Maternity styles, I love seeing women’s reaction realizing the greatness behind our clothes.
The hidden slit allows you to nurse anywhere without giving up on style or your self-respect.

My word of advice for someone who is looking for a dress that will be as useful as possible – try one of our maternity & nursing dresses.
Peek-a-boo’s whole collection is 2-in-1 and can be used both when pregnant and while nursing.

Go for a black dress – they are easy to dress up and be used for special occasions (be prepared to be the belle of the ball) or just throw on for everyday use.
Black is a great color to start with, classic and stylish.

4 Key tips to dressing while pregnant – you can be a hip mama!

Image Transcript:

You’re thrilled about finally being pregnant, but you’re less than excited about the idea of leaving your hip clothes behind in favor of sweats and tent dresses.
With a few simple wardrobe twists, you can be a hip mana!

Here are a few tips on how to dress your bump and how to conceal your less favorite post partum areas:

Tip #1: Stick with the same things you usually wear.

if you wear a lot of black and that makes you fell confident and comfortable, then don’t start wearing pink just because your pregnant!
if you prefer colors, choose a favorite neutral color for your bottoms and build your wardrobe around them.

Tip #2: Form-fitting is flattering – especially with a cute maternity tops !

Today’s moms-to-be are showing their bellies and breasts in cloths that are miles away from the large, lose maternity wardrobe our mothers used to wear.
And for a good reason: Form-fitting is much more flattering then really loose-fitting.

If you just gave birth and you don’t fell as comfortable with your tummy, the trick is to look for slightly looser styles which come in just under the bust, allowing the fabric to float over your tummy and match them with a pair for slightly more fitting-tailored bottoms.

Tip #3: Look for Stretch Fabrics – Works Well with Maternity Dresses for Special Occasions

As you purchase the basics, look for stretch fabrics.
Dresses and other clothing in stretch fabrics will last through the entire pregnancy, since they do have the ability to stretch.

This will keep you from having to purchase new clothing every couple of months while you are pregnant.

all of our garments are made to fit you from early pregnancy and throughout nursing!

Tip #4: Layers are important for all types of maternity and nursing clothes

Your metabolic rate increases by about 20 percent when your pregnant, which means that if everyone else is shivering you’re just likely to be complaining about the heat.
Being in your baby’s environment means the temperatures are relatively high(er).
With layered look, you can peek clothes off as needed.
On cold days, wear a T-shirt under a long cardigan.

Don’t get carried away, though – too many layers or layers that are too loose and can look sloppy instead of sophisticated.
